promote healthy lifestyle for young-olds
Jockey Club Mus-Fit Action is a programme aiming to promote a healthy and active lifestyle among the elderly in Hong Kong. The programme is co-organized by the Sports medicine team from Department of Orthopedics & Traumatology in CUHK and Dr. Stephen Hui Research Centre for Physical Recreation and Wellness in HKBU, sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charity Trust.
In order to improve the quality of life of the elderly, the project team, which includes doctors, physiotherapists and sports medicine experts, has designed “Mus-Fit Action” muscle strengthening exercise routines for the elderly to help reduce the severity of musculoskeletal problems in the community. The programme mainly focuses on these muscle strengthening exercises for relieving the extent of musculoskeletal problems, particularly on shoulder, neck, low back & knee. Elderly peer leaders will be trained as ambassadors to deliver the exercise programme to participants in the elderly community.
To ensure the sustainability and to improve the effectiveness of the programme, regular “Mus-Fit Action” workshops and events will be held to invite participants to physical tests and health assessments, as well as to promote the muscle strengthening exercises to the community.
On-field medical support
A Team behind the team
On-field medical support contributes to safer sporting events. Depends on the type and scale of sports events, generally we have physicians, physiotherapists or sports trainers to provide on-field medical support service. They are well equipped with knowledge and skills in the prevention and management of injuries and illnesses related to participation in sport and physical activity.
Since 2009, we provide a number of on-field support in different mega events including Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon, Phoenix Cup, Hong Kong Lacrosse Open, Hong Kong Games, etc. We also served different Schools, Universities and community sports teams in a variety of institutional or community based sports events. Our services were beneficial to many athletes and organizations over the past years.
Grow roots of Sports Medicine in community
To raise the public awareness on the importance of sports and health, we provide numerous and diversified community services and education program. We have out-reach projects to Primary schools, Secondary schools and Community sports team, as well as other projects and collaborations with a variety of associations and organizations.
For example, we support "Sports for All Day" every year since 2010 by delivering health talks, exercise demonstration and health assessments to the general public. Besides, in 2010-2013 and 2017, we co-organized a Football for Health scheme named "肥仔大作戰" and "肥佬大作戰", providing fitness training, nutrition advice and health assessments to the participants.
